Stop AAPI Hate, a joint project of Chinese for Affirmative Action, Asian Pacific Policy & Planning Council, and San Francisco State University, collects and analyzes anti-Asian hate, proposes policy changes and advocates for communities. As the leading aggregator of anti-AAPI hate incident reports, Stop AAPI Hate is an invaluable contributor to TAAF’s Hate and Discrimination Data Working Group to develop consistent practices for documenting and analyzing hate incidents targeting the Asian Americans and Pacific Islander community. Since early 2020, there has been a spike in anti-AAPI hate incidents arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic. These incidents include verbal abuse, bullying and outright physical violence. AAPI communities have long struggled for visibility and equity, and the need to track anti-AAPI hate data and research has never been greater.
The TAAF grant supports Stop AAPI Hate to expand its work on collecting and analyzing anti-AAPI hate data, to expand successful community safety solutions and models, and to advocate for anti-AAPI hate policy changes, especially at the state level.
